IS PROSTATE ONLY FOR MEN?
Yes, Prostate is only for men but this enlighting article is for everyone to read because one day you might meet an individual that is down with prostate condition and be of help to such an individual.
What are the main causes of the prostate enlargement
Let me start by creating a background so that you will understand what the prostate is all about fully.
Just as you know in the human body, there is a gland known as the kidney. The work of the Kidney is to filter the waste that is in the blood of every human being.
Everyday your blood passes through the kidney more than six times for it to be filtered, the kidney will extract the waste and use it to form Urine which is stored in the human bladder.
Now, Imagine an individual without a bladder, When the kidney filters the blood and form urine, the urine will be dripping out of the man penis as he is working on the way, that is to say, the cloth of that individual will always be wet.
If you hire a plumber to work for you at home, the plumber will definitely pass various pipes from your house to the suck away which will store the waste until the day it will get filled up and be packed out to create more space for other waste.

Using this illustration, the pipes are the Urethra in your body while the suck away is the bladder whenever it gets filled up you feel the urge to urinate and you will go ahead to urinate. By so doing you have created more space for more waste to enter into the bladder because your body cannot store waste.
Below the bladder and around the urethra lies a little gland called the prostate gland. This gland has the shape of a walnut and the size is approximate 20gramms.
Functions of the prostate glands
The main function of the prostate gland is to secrete a seminal fluid that is stored in the seminal vesicle.
During sexual intercourse, Seminal fluid comes down to the urethra from the seminal vesicle and mixes up with the sperm produced from the testicle to form semen.
That is to say, Semen is sperm plus seminal fluid that makes up the human sperms.
What causes an enlarged prostate.
There are numerous factors that can give rise to an enlarged prostate.
An enlarged prostate can be as a result of some hormonal inbalances which might occur at the age of 40 years.
As the individual advances in an age without going to check his prostate health, the prostate begins to increase in size, That is from the normal 20 grams to 100 grams.
Over time, the individual begins to notice that the way he urinates is changing gradually.
8 Symptoms of an enlarged prostate
There are a lot of symptoms and causes of an enlarged prostate which include;
- A weak or slow urinary stream.
- A feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
- Difficulty starting urination.
- Frequent urination.
- The urgency to urinate.
- Getting up frequently at night to urinate.
- A urinary stream that starts and stops.
- Straining to urinate.
Let me explain so that you can understand very well the causes of an enlarged prostate.
The man begins to notice that after urinating and repacking, urine still drops on his pants. This is the reason why after an older man urinates, he has to ring the bell.
A younger man simply delivers to the last drop and walks away. Just see an older man coming from the bathroom.
Sometimes he may clutch the newspaper closely to hide the urine stains, particularly on plain colored trousers.
At this point, you wait longer for the urine flow to start. There are 2 valves that must open for you to urinate – the internal and external sphincters. Both open but because of obstructions in the urethra, you wait longer for the flow to start.
You have this feeling immediately after urinating that there is still something left.
As all these things happen, the bladder begins to work harder to compensate for the obstruction in the urethra. The frequency of urination goes up.
Urgency sets in. Sometimes you have to practically run into the toilet. Nocturia also becomes common. You wake up more than 2 times at night to urinate. Your wife begins to complain.
Men being men may not talk to anyone even at this point. Then the more serious complications start.
Stored urine gets infected and there could be a burning sensation when urinating.
Stored urine forms crystals. Crystals come together to form stone either in the bladder or in the kidney. Stones may block the urethra.
Chronic urinary retention sets in. The bladder stores more and more urine. The size of the bladder is 40 – 60cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence.
Also, the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage.
What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.
Everything I have described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia.
OTHER DISEASES RELATED TO PROSTATE
1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate
2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.
This discussion is on prostate enlargement.
I have bad news and good news.
The bad news is that every man will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough.
To naturally reduce an enlarged prostate without surgery, there are some lifestyle you have to adapt to and they include;
- Urinating as soon as you feel the urge.
- Going to the bathroom to urinate, even when you don’t feel the urge.
- Avoiding over-the-counter decongestants or antihistamine medications, which can make it harder for the bladder to empty.
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine, especially in the hours after dinner.
- Reducing your stress level, as nervousness can increase the frequency of urination.
- Exercising regularly, as a lack of exercise can aggravate your symptoms.
- Learning and practicing Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic muscles.
- Keeping warm, since being cold can make symptoms worse.
ENLARGE PROSTATE SURGERY
Using a surgical method to treat prostate is not advisable as some times it fails and the gland will over time enlarge again and in this time it will become more painful.
Honestly, I don’t encourage enlarged prostate surgery because there is every possibility that it will still reoccur again if a surgical method is used.
I believe this post has answered the question of what are the main causes of prostate enlargement.
Enlarged Prostate glands can be effectively treated if the causes are known. The major causes of an enlarged prostate gland have medically been proven to be changes in the hormonal system.
enlarged prostate surgery is not advised by me and if at all it will be considered let it be the last resort.
When I say the last resort, I simply mean the last alternative for treatment.
